Attention DMV People!

WHO: Sewing enthusiasts, sewing-curious, & anyone who just loves to chat about sewing.All ages welcome. Whether you’re a kid with a parent, a teen, or an adult - this is an opportunity for anyone. I support an environment of inclusion, so please come with an open mind and expect that of your host and cohorts. Ellen (yoursewingbestie) does not want to have to get cranky but she will if she needs to.

WHAT: Connect with your community! Find new creators. Be with people whose faces don’t glaze over when you mention how your bobbin ran out of thread mid-project.

WHERE: Potomac Community Center- 11315 Falls Road - Potomac, 20854 - It’s a fairly small community center - we’ll meet in a large conference room. More detailed directions will be provided closer to this date - and I’ll put up some signs as permitted!

WHEN: Wednesday, February 11, 2026 from 6:30PM-8:30PM (Open house / drop in and out as you wish!)

WHY: Why not?! Okay, here’s my list:

  • Awesome people sew. If you come, you might meet an awesome person.

  • This is a free event, though you might leave with a sewing- or fashion-related raffle prize

  • It can be tough to “people,” but you’ll probably meet a fellow introvert (like me!) and connect right in time to get home before your social battery dies!

  • You might want to learn about sewing … to see if it’s for you … to ask for advice … to test out a sewing machine or serger … or find a new sewing buddy.

  • Maybe you’ve mastered sewing and alterations and you can’t wait to show off your skills, advise others, and just feel God-ly. Come! We want to learn from you!

  • You have literally nothing to do, but you heard there might be “prepackaged snacks” there, The rumors are true. Water and prepackaged snacks are allowed. Music is not (strangely).

HOW: Let me know you’re interested and just show up. Whether you want to socialize or just ask questions about sewing, check out some sewing tools & fabrics, learn how to thread a machine or serger and get out, that’s cool.
